my four creative seasons: looking, resting, making and longing.
this week was for looking.
reminders:
look closely and for a long time
keep moving if it's not interesting
make a list and let it guide you
don't buy more books this trip, you have enough to read at home
looking: at your own work, at other peoples work, at the discipline, understanding your point of view, what you admire, what you don’t like
resting: investing energy elsewhere or nowhere, minimal talking, slowing down, tending to other parts of life
making: mess, play, exploration, tension, repetition, mindfulness, execution, mindlessness
longing: what precedes exploration, figuring out if you want to make at all, connecting with urgency, understanding what you do not yet know about materials/ other humans/ the world / yourself

thank you to everyone who submitted a title for this tiny mood drawing via instagram earlier this week! i enjoyed your insights and creativity. choosing just one title was really tough but here’s my favorite: “FIREFLY MUSIC”
**a note for existing snail mail newsletter subscribers: if you need to change your mailing address, you can now do that here. new sign ups are closed right now, but i’ll share if/when i open them up again.
thank you for looking at, reading and supporting my work!
The snail mail newsletter is such a joy to receive. Thank you for doing that and for your commitment to the analog!
My heart deeply needs a long day at a museum and I wish the Art Institute & Field Museum were a possibility for me right now! The exhibits you shared in this post 💗💗💗
