Last year I had the joy of sitting down with Julia Shiota to speak about my work for Belt Magazine. It’s a gift to have someone write about your work with such thought and care. I want to share this piece with you as well as my deep gratitude for Julia, her writing and Belt Magazine.
Detroit We Dey
I created collage animations for Detroit We Dey, a wonderful short film directed by Ozi Uduma. It’s about the history of a Detroit social club founded by a community of Igbo-Nigerians in the 70s and 80s, and the efforts of the next generation to carry its traditions into the future. I’m really proud of this work!
The film will be screening May 29th and 31st at the African Film Festival of New York at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). I’m planning to be there in person, so please come and say hello! There will likely be screenings in Detroit next month and I’ll share details as soon as I have them!
